First and foremost...what a website! It is actually up there with the Sketch website. If Wahaca's website doesn't make you want to go there, maybe what we'll say in the following paragraphs will.
Wahaca is the popular stylish, fresh and vibrant Mexican restaurant in Covent Garden. And it is popular. The food is all organic, all made using fresh ingredients from Mexican Markets, and all served the way they were supposed to be served. Finally, after all these years, London has got a Mexican restaurant that isn't there to charge you the world for Mexican food you could have done better at home with a packet of Discovery spice and some peppers from Tesco.
The atmosphere in Wahaca is "happening". All the staff are friendly, and more than ready to help explain "what that is" on the menu. The cocktails are all served in recycled "good for the environment" glass cups, packed with colours and flavours. The music makes you do a little wiggle whilst your waiting for your soon to come food. And then the food comes. And you believe the hype.
The menu gives you quite a few options, most of which consist of you getting your hands messy. You could share a combination of dishes designed by Wahaca, with a mixture of spices, salsa's, vegetables and rice. Or you could risk it yourself and order 5 plates of spicy food with rice, and question why nobody warned you. The food is served "tapas" style, with loads of little plates scattered around the table for you to choose from. Or you could order a traditional style dish and enjoy it all to yourself.
Wahaca is one of the coolest Mexican restaurants in London, as long as your in a "mexican festival" frame of mind. Just make sure you get there a little early if you're hungry because they don't take reservations and the queue can be looooooong.
