More About This
---

Sideways. Pretty much. By that we mean, although some cool ideas have been put into the iPhone 3G S, it doesn't sound as groundbreaking as its predecessors. Of course it has got better, and if the whole "sharing" thing they've made a theme throughout its features doesn't take, it might not actually be worth the money for the S. It should, but the S might end up being one for those of us who "must have the best, newest stuff around...my life depends on it".

We all know the beauty of the iPhone is the apps. We all know this because it has been drummed into our heads by that same dude constantly talking about how there is "an app for just about anything" on our TV's every 14 minutes and 26 seconds. And that still stands. That alone is "the" reason to buy an iPhone. It uses the global communities creative power, and gives people who see "problems" the chance to solve them. And on the iPhone...they do.

But they were never going to scrap their best idea were they. So why THIS one? Why do I want an "S"? Well aside from the predictable "faster, smaller, more powerful, capable of changing your whole entire life" type stuff, we've been looking at their features page to pick out one or two things that might persuade you.

Firstly, the camera. It needed improving. Everyone knows we like to take photo's, and when people on Facebook are leaving comments on photo's you took with your "old" iPhone saying "Is that you?" you know the quality sucks. So they've given us a 3 megapixel camera now instead of the old 2. Not a great improvement, and honestly, we wanted to see at least 5. But but but. But. This iPhone see's things. It has an auto-focus technology so it can hone in on the thing you actually wanted to take the picture of, and if it doesn't do it itself, you can tap the screen, and it'll get on the job right away. Pretty cool.

Voice Control is another pretty cool thing. Instead of those tediously boring tasks of having to actually go through your phone to do something, now you can command your iPhone to call someone. Solving life's little problems...

Also, whether or not this just stays cool for about the first 3 days or not is not the point, but the Voice Memo feature sounds capable of some funny "tasks". I can see apps starting up for this already, but if your mind works at like 1000 mph (although in real practical terms, that might actually be pretty slow...) then you can just hit record, and speak your mind. This will save loads of people a lot of hassle, and give a lot more other people soooo much fun.

In retrospect, and we haven't talked about everything here, the iPhone 3G S sounds pretty cool. But not groundbreaking. There will be more functionality to immediately share things with people. Such as photo's, thoughts, directions, etc, which is really what we think the S should stand for. Sharing. And maybe, that will be the "thing" for the S, but on paper, it looks more like a "might buy" rather than a "must", especially if the sharing side doesn't take off in your friend circle.

In the words of Lady Gaga. Apple, we want "more more more more". S might just end up standing for "Shame".
