Looking for a way to see your favourite bands for free this summer whilst also earning a little extra? What better way can there be than to get a job working for a festival. One of the obvious perks of working on a festival is the free ticket some of them give you on top of the money. Some however do make you pay for your ticket before being hired but are likely to reimburse you once you've hung up your wellies. Be sure to check out the terms (if the ticket is your main priority) before filing out the online form (formely known as signing on the dotted line - but who needs paper?).
Festivals are however just one of the many Summer jobs available to us. If you'd prefer drunk people don't approach you to ask "have you seen a giant green monkey running past here" at the festivals, you can also pick up one of the many many many extra job vacancies at Theme Parks or other events going on around town.
So where to make a start my job hunting friend? First off, if you don't mind making your way to one of the festivals and picking up one of the reported 20,000 jobs on offer, there's a few sites to check out. Festivals like Glastonbury, Reading, T in the Park and even Lewisham People's Day mainly hire through DC Site Services and Cash and Traffic Management. There is such a huge range of jobs on offer, so make sure you find the right kind of job area your looking for. Pay is normally pretty low, near minimum, but it is so much better than being stuck in a retail shop earning 50p more per hour....trust me, I have previous. Glastonbury also have other contacts available if those sites aren't in the areas you looking in. Check out Working at Glastonbury Festival for more info.
April is also a huge month to start applying for theme park jobs. As most of us know, this is when the theme parks open and everyone starts talking about going to Thorpe Park, Chessington or maybe even going that bit further and heading up to Alton Towers "on a nuts one". This also means...more jobs. You'll be delighted to hear that you don't have to go to every theme park or attractions website and fill out 17 different forms just to apply. One company owns everything from Thorpe Park to the London Eye, all of which can be applied for through Merlin Careers. Good times.
There are also some other great places to check out part-time jobs. A pretty good website is www.summerjobs.co.uk which provides details from a whole heap of different areas. Obviously, some of you might have just graduated this Summer and will be looking to chill for 4 years before getting serious. As always, make sure YNG LDN is the place you go to find you chilling activities from. Peace amigo's.
